Madmen Entertainment has acquired all rights in Australia and New Zealand to two U.S. Documentary Competition Sundance films, Cindy Meehl’s “Buck” and Andrew Rossi’s “Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times.”
Both films were picked up earlier this week for North American distribution. “Buck” went to Sundance Selects, while “Page One” was taken by Magnolia Pictures and Participant Media.
“We are thrilled to have extracted these two gems from a busy marketplace,” said Paul Wiegard of Madman Entertainment.

Sundance Film Festival — January 27, 2011 — Madman Entertainment announced today that it has closed a deal and acquired all rights in Australia and New Zealand from Submarine Entertainment to Buck by Cindy Meehl and Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times by Andrew Rossi. The deals were negotiated by Paul Wiegard from Madman Entertainment and Josh Braun & David Koh of Submarine Entertainment. Both films will be released theatrically by Madman Entertainment and are screening in the U.S. Documentary Competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Cindy Meehl’s Buck is a film about a living legend in the horse world, Buck Brannaman, who was the real life inspiration for The Horse Whisperer. Buck was Produced by Julie Goldman. Andrea Meditch served as Creative Consultant. The film was Edited by Toby Shimin.
