Eleven World Premieres for Berlin's Perspektive Deutsches Kino

This year’s slate for the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section of the Berlin International Film Festival will be compromised by eleven films making their world premieres. Already in its tenth edition, the upcoming Perspektive section will be evenly divided between fiction and non-fiction works, with five documentaries rounding out the list of titles competing for the the “Dialogue en perspective” award. Two of the films, Dirk Lütter’s “The Education” and Ziska Reimann’s “Lollipop Monster,” will simultaneously compete for the “Best First Feature Award.”

Sandra Trostel’s “Utopia Ltd.” is set to open Perspektive Deutsches Kino. The documentary follows the experiences of a Hamburg punk band in an increasingly commercialized music industry. Nicolas Steiner’s documentary, “Battle of the Queens,” also focuses on an irreverent and independent-minded spirit. Steiner’s film, however, is far from the urban angst of the punk scene; “Battle of the Queens” is a documentary about cow fighting, a tourist attraction with its own arena in Aproz, a village in the Swiss Alps.

The section will also feature six narrative films, including Elke Hauk’s sophomore effort, “Der Preis.” The film tells the story of a middle-aged architect who enters in an architecture contest to remodel a housing complex in his hometown, situated in what was previously known as East Germany.
