Two very cool events are on the horizon at Enzian, and Film Society members-only can attend one while gaining free admission to the other. On Wednesday, January 19 at 6:30 PM, as part of “Winter With the Writers”, a Festival of the Literary Arts presented by Rollins College, Enzian is proud to present a free, one-time screening of Murnau’s NOSFERATU, followed by an exciting Q&A session with acclaimed author Jim Shepard. A closed event for the general public that’s open for a limited amount of Rollins students and faculty and Enzian Film Society members, you’ll also be able to enjoy a cocktail reception at 5PM at Eden Bar preceding the film.
Ranked by Empire magazine as one of the “100 Best Films of World Cinema,” NOSFERATU (1922), directed by the legendary F.W. Murnau, is considered the first important film of the vampire genre. Mostly shot on location, this silent German Expressionist classic features spectral atmosphere and is perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned. It will be presented in a breathtaking new restoration with Hans Erdmann’s original score and newly-translated English intertitles.
And if that membership perk isn’t exciting enough for you, Saturday, January 29 at 12 noon, heading into Black History Month, Enzian and the University of Central Florida Film Department proudly present the Orlando premiere of Tanya Hamilton’s NIGHT CATCHES US with the filmmaker in attendance. An Official Selection of the 2010 Sundance, Los Angeles, and New Directors/New Films at Lincoln Center film festivals, this Magnolia Pictures release is a powerful drama about a former Black Panther returning to his old Philadelphia neighborhood and stars Anthony Mackie (THE HURT LOCKER) and Kerry Washington (RAY). Free admission to this very special Meet-the-Filmmaker event is available to a limited amount of UCF students and faculty and Enzian Film Society members. Once those tickets are gone, admission will be $10 general public and $7.50 for Film Society members.
If you’re not already a member enjoying the benefits of discounted admission, reservation privileges, free popcorn, special screenings, and advance purchase to the Florida Film Festival, what better time than now to join us?
