Daniel Radcliffe To Star In Indie Comedy 'The Amateur Photographer'

With the “Harry Potter” franchise officially for the birds as of this July, its young cast are starting to look elsewhere for work. Emma Watson has “My Week With Marilyn” coming up, and may be teaming with Taylor Lautner on “Incarceron,” while villain Tom Felton has Hollywood work on “Rise of the Apes” and “The Apparition” later in the year, and Rupert Grint is hopefully somewhere having treatment to make him less teeth-grindingly annoying. But what of Harry himself?

Daniel Radcliffe is currently prepping to appear on Broadway in the musical “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” and wrapped the Hammer horror flick “The Woman In Black” last year, and now word has come of a project that looks to be his first American lead. Variety reports that Radcliffe will star in the indie comedy “The Amateur Photographer,” which follows a young man in a small New England town in the 1970s, who finds his artistic calling after being asked to document the ‘intimate moments’ of its inhabitants.

The project is being written and directed by Christopher Monger (“The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain“), who was most recently nominated for an Emmy for his screenplay for HBO‘s “Temple Grandin,” while Ted Hope and Anne Carey (“Adventureland“) are producing alongside former actress Karen Montgomery.

There’s no word on when the project might go before cameras; “How To Succeed In Business” is currently booking through to November, so we imagine it’ll be the end of this year at the earliest, unless the show proves to be a stinker. It seems like it could be a decent enough comedy-drama, and probably the right size of project for Radcliffe to make his U.S. debut on.
