Jodie Foster Says Role In Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' Isn't A Done Deal Yet

Last month, everything looked good to go on Neill Blomkamp‘s upcoming, secretive sci-fi pic “Elysium.” He assembled a cast with Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley said to be on board and Sony dropped a staggering $120 million to get the rights to the film. But it appears everything isn’t quite a done deal just yet.

Speaking with Empire, Jodie Foster has revealed that her participation in the film isn’t quite confirmed. “Actually, I’m not on that movie! I don’t know how that got out there,” Foster said. “Well, I’m not not on it, but I’m not booked or involved in a deal yet. People want to jump the gun on Neill because he’s the new David Fincher or whatever. And I get why – I love him and ‘District 9‘ was my favourite film of 2009. But we’re just not at that time in the process yet…” Hmm. We’d guess that Foster has certainly been approached but that contracts and deal points and all that fun stuff are still being hammered out and we’d wouldn’t be surprised if that was the same for everyone else involved. The actors likely attached themselves to get the film moving and now all the little details are being formalized.

Should everything fall into place pre-production on the film is slated to begin in April with shooting to begin in July in Vancouver before moving to Mexico in the fall. And that’s not all Blomkamp has in the works, and he has also lined up another original project, “Chappie,” to shoot right after “Elysium.”
