Meryl Streep Heads To 'Great Hope Springs' With 'Devil Wears Prada' Director David Frankel

A project that has been brewing since last summer is now getting solidified and moving head. Meryl Streep is in final negotiations to star in the drama “Great Hope Springs” that will find the legendary actress reteaming with “The Devil Wears Prada” director David Frankel.

Written by Vanessa Taylor making her feature debut after working on television shows like “Everwood” and “Alias,” the Black List approved script, follows a middle-aged couple who after thirty years of marriage attend an intense counseling weekend to examine the intimacy issues that are threatening their marriage. The film cropped up at various points last year with Streep consistently attached while a number of actors — Jeff Bridges, Philip Seymour Hoffman and James Gandolfini — got linked to the film in various roles. The film even had a couple of directors circling with Jessie Nelson (“I Am Sam“) and Mike Nichols involved at various stages.

No word yet on who Streep’s co-stars will be but there is still a bit of time to work that out but given the subject matter and dramatic heft of the material, we expect some top names to join the pic. Lensing on “Great Hope Springs” will begin in August; Streep is currently filming “The Iron Lady,” a biopic about Margaret Thatcher and in case you missed it, here’s a first look at her in the titular role.
