Alan Rickman & Tom Courtenay Join 'Gambit' With Colin Firth & Cameron Diaz

As if a movie starring Colin Firth and directed by Michael Hoffman wasn’t classing up the joint enough already, the Coen Brothers-scribed remake of “Gambit” is bringing on two more Brit veterans to show everyone how it’s done.

The Wrap reports that Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay have joined the film alongside Firth and Cameron Diaz. The plot follows a thief (Firth) who plans to steal a statue from one of the wealthiest men in the world and enlists the help of a woman (Diaz) who is a dead ringer for the man’s late wife to help him with job. Rickman will play the role of the mark, Lord Shahbandar while Courtney plays a character named Major.

Production is aiming to kick off next month in London. CBS Films picked up the rights to the film earlier this month and it easily marks their most high profile and quality project to date. You can bet the fledgling studio has big hopes for this one following a string of flops including “Extraordinary Measures,” “The Back-Up Plan” and “Faster.” No release date yet, but a 2012 bow seems likely.
