Web Series: Gender-Twisting Girls on Film, Michael Cera's Bad Dads, Hulu's Trailer Trash

There’s a rash of new content heading toward the Web. Two new episodes of Lionsgate’s first web series from producer Hud:sun Media’s Max Benator and creator Todd Goldman, the raunchy animated Trailer Trash, debuted exclusively on Hulu this week (clips below). The hope, always, in this transmedia age, is to capture enough attention from viewers that the real revenue producing venues– television and movies–come calling. Also online this March are a new Michael Cera CollegeHumor.com web series Bad Dads and a new twist on gender-bending, The Girls on Film (videos below).

The dark comedy series Bad Dads, which launched March 2, showcases new comedy work from Cera, who is supported by Will Hines (Upright Citizens Brigade), Elaine Carroll (Very Mary-Kate), and Brian Gallivan (Sassy Gay Friend). Each of the five episodes (ending March 30) involves Cera and Hines as his wayward father. The production team, headed by writer/director Derek Westerman, brought the project to Cera in May 2010, and after reading the script, Cera signed on to participate at no cost.

And The Girls on Film “take great movie scenes between men and recreate them with women,” says actress Ashleigh Harrington (@theshleigh), who founded the interactive film blog with director Jeff Hammond. Their first four episodes are Fight Club, The Town, Star Trek and No Country for Old Men.. They’ve captured the attention of the online film fan community: Star Trek writer Bob Orci corresponded with Harrington about the Star Trek episode via Twitter (fan versions of Star Trek with Spock and Kirk as gay lovers have long existed); here’s TrekMovie. The female-centric LA film festival Bleedfest plans to screen the show at a future fest. And the media is interested: Entertainment Tonight Canada, ABC Nightline News and World News with Diane Sawyer are prepping stories on the group, following breaks in , Den of Geek, The F Word , Moviefone, Movie CIty News, The Fresh Outlook, Its Just Movies, The Sociological Cinema and Women and Hollywood.
