"One Day" and Other Stunt Novels

How do you sell a novel when the publishing industry is floundering? Some authors have turned to gimmicks – photos or bar codes on the page, fiction in the form of a dictionary. I’ve written about these new Stunt Novels for The Daily Beast.

The piece includes David Nicholls’ movie-ready best seller One Day, which checks in on two friends on the same day every year for nearly two decades. Lone Sherfig (An Education ) has directed the film version, with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess (above), coming in July.
