One of my most anticipated albums of 2011, TV On The Radio’s “Nine Types of Light,” finally came out last week and I’ve spent the last week slowly processing it… It’s definitely not their best, lacking a certain energy as a cohesive effort (I fear nothing will top 2006’s “Return to Cookie Mountain,” which is one of my favourite albums of the past 10 years). But there is one standout track that I have fallen in love with in that once-a-year sort of way where you can just listen to it over and over and over without tiring of a moment of it.
“Second Song” is one of the most infectious, joyous and romantic tracks TV on the Radio’s ever put together, and a clear frontrunner for my song of the spring (and year). The ecstatic, falsettoed hook that starts around 1:25 genuinely made me swoon over and over all weekend, belting out the lyrics as I drunkenly waltzed across Brooklyn at 4 o’clock in the morning. Listen, listen and listen again:
