Relativity Media and producer Edward R. Pressman have hired Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct their remake of Alex Proyas’s 1994’s The Crow for a fall production start. The original starred Brandon Lee, who died in tragic set accident involving a prop gun loaded with blanks.
Fresnadillo plans a re-invention of The Crow which was based on the James O’Barr comic book series and strip featuring Eric Draven, who is resurrected as The Crow to avenge his wife’s murder so he can reunite with her in the hereafter.
Relativity and Pressman team with Spain-based Apaches Entertainment’s Enrique López Lavigne, who also co-wrote and produced with Fresnadillo 28 Weeks Later, the post-apocalyptic horror sequel to 28 Days Later. Fresnadillo also directed the Spanish-language film Intacto and is currently in post-production on Apaches’ Intruders starring Clive Owen.
The film is being produced by Pressman, Jeff Most, Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and Apaches’ Levigne and Belén Atienza. Fresnadillo will develop the script once a writer is attached. No casting has been announced. Mark Wahlberg flirted with the lead role at one time.
