6 New Photos From Pedro Almodovar's 'The Skin I Live In'

Starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes, Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film, “The Skin I Live In,” has not yet screened to critics at the Cannes Film Festival, but it sounds like a tantalizing offering from one of cinema’s consistently modern auteurs. Based on Thierry Jonquet‘s novel “Mygale,” this revenge tale tells the story of a plastic surgeon (Banderas) on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter and looks like part horror, thriller and melodrama which is a nice change of pace for Almodóvar(though arguably, the film noir tones in the uneven, but ever-watchable “Broken Embraces,” had some of those notes too).

But of course an Almodóvar film is never just one thing, so “horror,” of course, will be a very relative term. An intriguing and creepy teaser trailer landed this past weekend, and if that wasn’t enough to haunt you or build your anticipation for the film in advance, some new photography from the film has arrived as well.

Banderas is obviously no stranger to Almodóvar’s work (see the beginning of his career and the pictures that caught the eyes of U.S. producers and filmmakers), so we’re curious about the rather striking Elena Anaya, who looks like she’ll be subverting her beauty in this picture and has already put some solid turns in pictures like “Sex & Lucia,” “Savage Grace,” and a small part in Almodóvar’s 2002 picture, “Talk To Her.” More images below. “The Skin I Live In” is due in U.S. theaters sometime in November. We assume it will also hit the Toronto International Film Festival before that.
