Actress Watch: Rachel Weisz's Slate Might Include Oz, Roberts & Clinton Talk, Kidman's Next Biopic?

Nicole Kidman loves her biopics. She’s flirting with the lead in Our Wild Life, about Kenyan wildlife conservationist Dame Daphne Sheldrick (now 76, pictured), known for her work with the war-torn country’s endangered elephants. As The Wrap reports, Hollywood doesn’t make movies like this anymore. Gone are the good old days of Out of Africa (1985) and Born Free (1966), not to mention 1988’s Gorillas in the Mist, the Dian Fossey biopic starring Sigourney Weaver. No official involvement from Kidman yet, but Phillip Noyce (Salt) is currently attached to direct.

– Rachel Weisz — who we haven’t seen much of recently — is currently in negotiations to play the villain (Evanora) in the Disney/Sam Raimi prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful (with James Franco and Mila Kunis). But she’s been prepping a number of promising upcoming films, including Jim Sheridan’s Dream House with Naomi Watts and Daniel Craig (September 2011), Germany/Canada’s The Whistleblower from writer-director Larysa Kondracki (out this fall), Fernando Mereilles’s 360 (filming), David Hare’s thriller Page Eight with Ralph Fiennes (post), Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea (based on the Terence Rattigan play; post), Lasse Hallström’s The Danish Girl with Kidman (pre-production), as well as the untitled Terence Malick project that also stars Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck, Amanda Peet and Jessica Chastain (also in post, here’s a first look).

– Promoting Extraordinary Moms, Julia Roberts and Hilary Clinton chat with Time about the Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (more serious than it sounds), watching the Royal Wedding with their daughters, and offer some advice for working moms: Says Roberts, “Madame Secretary said a great thing when I was talking to her about being a working mom: You just have to let some things go. You slowly and gently reprioritize your life and your day and where your attentions go. It was such a relief to hear someone who has accomplished so much and raised this beautiful daughter say, Just relax about it.” [Picture courtesy OWN Network]
