Will Ferrell finally shaved off Conan O’Brien’s beard last night in the not-so-dramatic conclusion of Beardpocalypse. I guess it was relief that Ferrell used an electric shaver and not the Sweeney Todd straightrazor he’d been flashing around in the funny video previews. And maybe it was inevitable that after weeks of buildup the actual moment would be a little disappointing.
But Ferrell was in good form talking to Conan before the shave. He was there to promote his indie film Everything Must Go (he’s terrific in it; here’s my review) but didn’t break character from the guy who couldn’t stand to see Conan’s beard for another minute.
Here it is. The clip doesn’t include Ferrell’s deadpan reaction when he sees the clean-shaven Conan after the commercial: “I made a terrible mistake.”
