BEING ELMO premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize and most recently screened at this year’s HotDocs Festival in Toronto. It has played to sold-out audiences at festivals across the USA. Beloved by children of all ages around the world, Elmo is an international icon. Few people know his creator, Kevin Clash, who dreamed of working with his idol, master puppeteer Jim Henson. Displaying his creativity and talent at a young age, Kevin ultimately found a home on Sesame Street. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, this documentary includes rare archival footage, interviews with Frank Oz, Rosie O’Donnell, Cheryl Henson, Joan Ganz Cooney and others and offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop.

Constance Marks stated, “We are very excited to be working with our new partners to bring BEING ELMO to a global audience.”

“Connie has made a genuinely brilliant film about the man behind a childhood icon, his incredible realm of invention and imagination that is usually restricted to 7-year olds,” said Susan Margolin, Co-President, New Video. “We are excited to support BEING ELMO’s platform release and to bring Kevin’s inspiring story to audiences of any age.”

ITVS/Independent Lens stated, “Independent Lens champions stories about mavericks who fulfill their own personal vision in a way that makes the world a better place–people like Elmo creator Kevin Clash,” said Lois Vossen, Founding Series Producer. “BEING ELMO captures the man and the magic that brings Elmo to life. It celebrates the creative process and encourages all of us–no matter our age–to develop the good in our own hearts and make it part of the world.”
