With The Weinstein Company set to come out victorious in bidding for distribution rights on John Hillcoat‘s Prohibition era crime-drama “The Wettest County In The World,” the Cannes Film Festival now also brings us a new look at Tom Hardy as the hustling middle Forrest brother in Matt Bondurant‘s novel of the same name.

The pic sees Hardy star alongside Shia LaBoeuf and Jason Clarke as the leading trio of Bondurant brothers who run a bootlegging gang during Prohibition but find their moonshine dynasty in Franklin County, Virginia threatened by the authorities wanting a cut. Co-starring are the likes of Jessica Chastain who plays Hardy’s love interest Maggie; Mia Wasikowska as LaBeouf’s love interest; newcomer Dane DeHaan as Labeouf’s partner-in-crime; Guy Pearce as a violent deputy with the brothers in his sights; and Gary Oldman as a gangster who employs the boys. What’s not to love about this cast?

Nick Cave, who actually adapted the novel for the screen, will also be writing the score after teaming with Hillcoat for “The Road” with Warren Ellis probably also on board. The best part of it all? An award-season 2011 release might be on the cards. [CulturExpresso/Twitpic]
