The Weinstein Company has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled follow-up to “There Will Be Blood,” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix.
In what has been referred to on the web as Anderson’s ‘Scientology drama,’ Hoffman would play an American man who returns home after WWII, who once back founds a new religion. Phoenix is said to be cast as his main disciple.
Jeremy Renner was rumored to be originally attached to the project, but has since dropped out. Anderson is said to be eying actresses Madisen Beaty (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), Amy Adams and Laura Dern.
