Woody Allen Acts Again in Rome Movie

As Woody Allen does the advance press rounds for his new movie Midnight in Paris, a valentine to the City of Lights which will play like gangbusters when it opens the Cannes Film Festival May 11, he is also revealing some tantalizing tidbits about his new movie, which he will shoot in Rome this summer. My full interview with Allen will run the moment the first press screening in Cannes lets out Wednesday. Trailer is below.

The big reveal for the Rome movie: Woody Allen has written a part for himself, the first since 2006’s Scoop.

This one is “not the same kind of picture” as Midnight in Paris, he says. “It’s not as romantic. It’s more an out-and-out comedy. I have a good cast so far: Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg, Penelope Cruz, Ellen Page, Roberto Begnini, and myself included.” Yes, he gets to be funny. “I don’t know Rome as well as I know Paris,” he says. “I hope it won’t be too hot.” He’ll also use the same director of photography as Midnight in Paris, Darius Khondji.
