Emmy Watch: Comedy Actresses Fischer, Poehler, Cuoco, Michele, Hatcher

The six funniest women in television—all around one table. The Emmy-nominated actors for best comedy meet up in a THR video round table (below) to talk about everything you want to hear comedians chat about: blanking on stage, improvising, and avoiding their own TV-shows on in-flight entertainment.

The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco shares her greatest comedic trick, learned from I Love Lucy: “big eyes are funny!” Everyone agrees—this should be the title of her memoir.

Modern Family’s Julie Bowen and Parks and Recreation’s Amy Poehler bond about how family puts work into perspective. With a family, Poehler says, she stopped stressing so much about her job. Her kids became “this beautifully wrapped package of something to worry about.”

Mostly, these women confirm again and again: they love their careers. But the comedy lies in their frustrations, their embarrassing moments, the times they were asked to imitate the Supremes and informed last minute that there would be no back-up music (Poehler).

Jenna Fischer, from the Office, jokes about the engrossing quality of Hollywood chatter: “It bothers me that the first question they ask women on the red carpet, is what are you wearing. And it bothers me that I care.” Her tone is lighthearted, but she says that when this is the focus, there isn’t enough conversation about the craft.

Watch these women talk about life on the small screen; Glee’s Lea Michele And Terri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives round out the hilarious half dozen.
