Each week, we usually gather up four or five projects in progress to feature in a single column. Now it’s going to be a daily feature, so we can give the spotlight to a single project each day.

“Exotic World & the Burlesque Revival”
Tweetable Logline: A documentary about a goat farm in the Mojave Desert that became ground zero of the largest burlesque revival since the 1940s.
Elevator Pitch: “Exotic World and the Burlesque Revival” tells the story of a goat farm in the middle of the Mojave Desert that became ground zero of the largest burlesque revival since the 1940s. Retired dancer Dixie Evans, “The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque,” transforms a goat shed into “Exotic World”, the world’s first and only museum devoted to striptease. In response, young burlesque revivalists across the country begin making pilgrimages to the museum. The film captures the moment in time when the revivalists and elderly legends meet in the blazing hot desert and create a vibrant artistic culture that fuels the resurgence of neo-burlesque.

About the Production:
Back in 2001 I was working on another project and heard about a woman who was a striptease artist during the 1940s and 50s who turned a goat ranch into a burlesque museum. When I drove out to meet her, I got lost and started to turn around–I couldn’t imagine that there was really a museum in this absolutely desolate area of the Mojave Desert. I said to myself give it five more minutes. That five minutes turned into ten years.
The film is currently completing its post-production and is looking for funds to cover finishing expenses and archival media and music licensing.
