Jimmy Kimmel Gives Us "Michele Bachmann's Story of America"

You wouldn’t think it would be so hard for presidential candidates to get a grip on some basics of American history. I know they’re busy with their stylists and their strategists – like the geniuses who thought Michele Bachmann should launch her campaign from Waterloo – but how hard is it to know that the Founding Fathers didn’t work “tirelessly against slavery,” as Bachmann claimed, but that many of them owned slaves instead?

Playing off that blunder, Jimmy Kimmel has created the very funny video, “Michele Bachmann’s Story of America.” I won’t give away too much except to say: Frodo is in it.

There are endless echoes among late-night satirists, and this history lesson has the same spirit as Conan O’Brien’s hilarious Sarah Palin History Channel and his Michele Bachmann History Channel. But then Bachmann and Palin seem prone to the same clumsy, avoidable gaffes. The Atlantic Wire even has a sharp little article looking at how the foreign press is seeing similarities between the two history-challenged candidates, called “Palin, Bachmann, Whatever.

I’m not sure it seems much different at home. Thank goodness Hillary Clinton ran a serious, intelligent campaign, or between them Palin and Bachmann’s bubble-headed remarks might set women presidential candidates back decades.
