I used to actually watch the MTV Movie Awards, and genuinely appreciated the sort of cool populism their winners portrayed. Mind you, I was 8 or 9 years old, but the days when “Pulp Fiction,” “Menace II Society” and “Seven” would take the top prizes helped make the awards a respectably hip cousin to the regular awards circuit. But like their video award counterpart, the awards have seen a bland and predictable mainstreaming that have essentially turned them into a teen version of the People’s Choice Awards. Last night continued this trend, with the “Twilight” series continuing what looks to be a half-decade of dominating all the major categories.
