The Weinstein Company Names Negeen Yazdi Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions

Negeen Yazdi is the new London-based VP of acquisitions and co-productions at the Weinstein Co. Yazdi left her position at Universal Pictures International, where she was director of worldwide acquisitions. Yazdi will be responsible for generating new projects for TWC and “cultivating existing partnerships with talent and filmmakers,” as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the London office.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) has named Negeen Yazdi vice president of acquisitions and co-productions, based out of the company’s London office. The announcement was made today by TWC COO David Glasser.

In her new position, Yazdi will report to Peter Lawson, executive vice president acquisitions and co-productions, and will be responsible for generating new projects for TWC, as well as cultivating existing creative partnerships with talent and filmmakers. In addition, Yazdi will be charged with overseeing the day to day operations of the company’s London office.

Lawson said: “Negeen is a bright star, we have watched her career develop within the business and she has proved to be a true tour de force. Her taste and reputation precede her and we are very excited to have her join us.”

Yazdi commented: “It is an exciting time for independent film and TWC continues to be at the forefront, making defining moves that drive the business forward. I couldn’t be happier to be working with this talented and dynamic team.”

TWC’s history of European acquisitions and productions includes Academy Award® Best Picture winner THE KING’S SPEECH, Golden Globe® Best Foreign Language Film nominee THE CONCERT and Academy Award® winner THE READER, as well as upcoming films MY WEEK WITH MARILYN starring Michele Williams, Ralph Fiennes’s directorial debut CORIOLANUS and Phyllida Lloyd’s IRON LADY starring Meryl Streep and Jim Broadbent.

Most recently Yazdi spent three years at Universal Pictures International (UPI) where she held the position of director, worldwide acquisitions, identifying projects for acquisition and production. Yazdi was the sole European based acquisitions executive, reporting to the president of international production and acquisitions. During her tenure at UPI Yazdi’s acquisition credits included; A DANGEROUS METHOD (David Cronenberg), THE TROLL HUNTER (Andre Ovredal), STEP UP 3D (Jon Chu), TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (Tomas Alfredson) and THE RAVEN (James McTeigue). She was also central to the development of European based co-productions and managed the co-development relationship with Australian production company Hopscotch.

Prior to UPI Yazdi worked in the Literary Division at Independent Talent Group (formerly known as ICM) on client accounts including; Danny Boyle, Jane Goldman, Joe Wright, Matt Greenhalgh, Julian Jarrold, Philippe Parreno, Mark Tonderai and James Marsh.

Yazdi graduated with honors from Cambridge University, St John’s College with a Bachelors degree in Modern Languages, before earning her Masters at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, in Cinema Studies. During this period Yazdi completed internships at Working Title Films in London and Good Machine International in New York.
