Warner Bros. Want Will Ferrell & Adam McKay To 'Swear To God'

The pairing of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay is like peanut butter and chocolate, and of course, has been very lucrative as well. The duo collaborated on “Anchorman,” “Step Brothers,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and last year’s “The Other Guys” and Warner Bros., like the rest of us, wants to see these two back together again.

Deadline reports that the studio has picked up a pitch by “Due Date” writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland with Ferrell and McKay attached to star and direct respectively under their Gary Sanchez Productions shingle. Details on the plot are light, but it’s a buddy comedy (paging John C. Reilly or Mark Wahlberg!) that would find Ferrell playing “a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God.” Sounds like shades of “Stranger Than Fiction,” but with the buddy element, we’re sure it’ll be much, much broader.

But this would be way off anyway. Ferrell will be busy later this year, teaming with Zach Galifianakis on the political comedy “Southern Rivals” which not coincidentally, is also set up at WB. As for McKay he seems eager to get the graphic novel adaptation “The Boys” off the ground, but word on that seems to be quiet of late. All this to say, that the “hedge fund” element of “Swear To God” reminds us of the very random and very serious credit sequence to “The Other Guys” last year about the crippling financial situation facing the United States. What’ll we get with this movie?
