Dark Knight Rises Filming in Pittsburgh, Two New Biopics, Development Arrested

The Dark Knights Rises moved locations this week to start filming in the latest Gotham City stand-in: Pittsburgh, PA. “When you’re making a large-scale action film that has to showcase the vitality and size of a large American city,” director Christopher Nolan told The Pittsburgh Business Times, “it also involves a certain amount of disruption to that city in order to make the action credible on screen.” The film will pay homage to some Steel City landmarks with a Heinz Field crowd scene at a football game, where mass destruction will likely take place.

-Summit has acquired the rights to the story of Jose Vigoa, whose biography title explains it all: Storming Las Vegas: How a Cuban-Born, Soviet-Trained Commando Took Down the Strip to the Tune of Five World-Class Hotels, Three Armored Cars, and Millions of Dollars. Summit is negotiating with Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who is currently directing action-thriller The Tomb.

-In other biopic news, David Fincher will produce the story of American photographer, Dorothea Lange, who captured harrowing faces of the Great Depression. Variety reports that Angela Workman is currently working on a script about the photographer, whose portraits of anguishing farmers were said to have inspired John Steinbeck’s novel The Grapes of Wrath.

-Development, Arrested: After Will Arnett’s latest announcement about an Arrested Development movie, Salon publishes a list of promises that have been made to put the show on the big screen. In other words, don’t count your chickens on this one.
