‘Marie Antoinette’ Producer Ross Katz To Direct Assassin Thriller ‘Brotherhood Of The Rose’

‘Marie Antoinette’ Producer Ross Katz To Direct Assassin Thriller 'Brotherhood Of The Rose'

Ross Katz certainly has good taste and knows good material when he see it. As a producer he’s been behind “Marie Antoinette,” “Lost in Translation,” and “In the Bedroom” and being around those sets and that talent seemed to have been a help when in 2009, Katz made his feature directorial debut with “Taking Chance,” the acclaimed HBO drama starring Kevin Bacon. Since then, Katz has been taking his time with a followup. This past spring he was linked to direct Luke Evans in the thriller “The Amateur American” but another movie will now roll first, and we have admit, it sounds pretty promising.

Katz will helm an adaptation of David Morrell‘s novel “Brotherhood Of The Rose.” So why does this have our interest? Well, Morrell was the man who penned “First Blood” which spawned the “Rambo” franchise and this material at least seems to have a few more layers to it. With shades of “Hanna” to it, the story revolves around two orphans who were raised and trained by the CIA to be deadly assassins, only to find themselves being hunted themselves by the very person that trained them. Could be a pretty sweet little genre flick. And it won’t be the first time somebody has seen something cinematic in the material.

Back in 1989, NBC adapted the book into a miniseries that starred a bunch of random people and Robert Mitchum. Needless to say, and as you can tell from the trailer below, it didn’t look so hot. Gold Circle Films are now casting the film that will shoot next year, and be Katz’s next effort behind the camera. We’re intrigued, and hope some strong talent comes aboard.
