NewFest 2011 Crowns Winners "Circumstance," "Gone," "Tomboy" Star Zoé Héran

New York’s NewFest, in its 23rd year, came to a close last night with the announcement of its winners prior to their closing night screening of “Gun Hill Road.” Of over 50 films, winners included Maryam Keshavrz’s “Circumstance” (Best Film – Narrative Feature), John and Gretchen Morning’s “Gone” (Best Film – Documentary), Eric Brach’s “Habana Muda” (Special Jury Prize – Documentary), Michael Stabile’s “Smut Capital of America” (Best Doc Short), Kyle Henry’s “Fourplay: San Francisco” (Best Narrative Short), and “Tomboy” star Zoé Héran (Best Performance).

The audience favored both Stephen Cone’s “The Wise Kids” and Ryan Gielen’s “Turtle Hill, Brooklyn” for Best Narrative Feature, while they picked Elizabeth Sperling and Trish Dalton’s “One Night Stand” for Best Doc Feature. Nicholas Verso and Anton De Lonno won the NewDraft Screenplay Competition for “Boys in the Trees” and “July Flame,” respectively.
