Sundance Institute Brings Comedy ShortLab to Hollywood

Robert Redford’s Sundance Fest was born to be different, down to its roots in the Utah Rocky Mountains. This summer fest parent the Sundance Institute is moving one of its famed labs into the heart of Hollywood.

The Institute is mounting its new Comedy ShortLab, a one-day comedic short-film symposium that will be held at The Silent Movie Theater in West Hollywood on August 6 and will feature a range of panels and screenings focusing on the craft of short-form film.

It’s a follow-up to last year’s (non-comedy) ShortLabs event, which was so successful that Sundance rolled out versions this summer in New York and Chicago.

This year’s panels will range from discovering the comic voice to examining the relationship between actors and directors and developing the right timing and rhythm for successful comedy. Panelists will include Julie Delpy, writer, director and actor of 2 Days in Paris and Troy Miller, a director of Flight of the Conchords.
