Academy Re-Elects Tom Sherak as President & Votes to Award Oprah Winfrey & James Earl Jones

Tom Sherak, a marketing, distribution and production executive who’s served as a partner at Revolution Studios and chairman of Twentieth Century Fox, was re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors, it was announced last night by the Academy. This will mark his third consecutive one-year term in the office.

In other posts, Producers Branch governor Hawk Koch was elected first vice president; Executives Branch governor Robert Rehme was elected to one vice president post and Writers Branch governor Phil Robinson was re-elected to the other vice president post; Short Films and Feature Animation Branch governor John Lasseter was elected treasurer; and Actors Branch governor Annette Bening was re-elected secretary.

And in other Academy news, the Board of Governors voted to present Honorary Awards to James Earl Jones (“The Great White Hope,” “Field of Dreams”) and makeup artist Dick Smith (“The Godfather,” “The Exorcist”) and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Oprah Winfrey. All three awards will be presented at the third annual Governors Awards dinner on November 12.
