Five lucky students have just added something pretty major to their resumes. For the fifth year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Science and Technology Council has provided summer internships for students interested in motion picture computer graphics, archiving, sound, research and technology. The students will work with some of the top names in pioneering film technology, including Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic.
“The Tech Council’s interns are selected for their academic excellence and their potential to make contributions to the future of the motion picture industry,” said Elizabeth Cohen, the Council’s internship program chair. “The mentor-guided programs provide science and engineering experiences that will power enduring innovation and cultivate a profound appreciation of the cinematic art form.”

The Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected five students to participate in a summer internship program designed to provide real-world experience to students interested in careers in motion picture computer graphics, archiving, sound, research and technology.
Now in its fifth year, the program provides 10-to-12 week internships that give students hands-on experience with advanced motion picture technologies. The Science and Technology Council, Pixar Animation Studios, Industrial Light & Magic, and Rhythm & Hues Studios are each hosting interns, and the Council is providing a stipend to each student.
The 2011 Science and Technology Council summer interns and their internship hosts are:

Yeon Jin Lee, University of California, Berkeley – Pixar Animation Studios

Established in 2003 by the Academy’s Board of Governors, the Science and Technology Council provides a forum for the exchange of information, promotes cooperation among diverse technological interests within the industry, sponsors publications, fosters educational activities and preserves the history of science and technology of motion pictures.
