– Brad Pitt on the long road to getting Moneyball on the big screen: “It just spoke to me on so many levels. I just couldn’t let it go.”
– Soderbergh on the joys of killing off Academy-winning thespians in Contagion: “Especially in the case of Gwyneth [Paltrow]. She has a seizure, which was really creepy. That was really fun. She dies good.”
– Ryan Gosling on George Clooney directing The Ides of March; “Watching him direct was like watching someone try to explain a song that’s in his head, like Michael Jackson in This is It trying to tell that keyboard player how to play that part. He knew exactly how he wanted it.” Don’t expect Clooney to do much Oscar campaigning: “I did that once [with Syriana, Good Night, and Good Luck],..but I don’t need to to it again.”
– Angelina Jolie, on writing and directing In The Land of Blood and Honey (pictured): “When you write something, it’s like you’re an actor playing all different parts..you have to keep pushing your personality and write from different angles,..to sit down and put words on paper was terrifying, because it’s so personal. I found that much more difficult.” She shot the film in both English and Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian: “I wanted to make it as accessible as possible for people.”
– Antonio Banderas on The Skin I Live In: “It’s eerie. It’s a very disturbing movie, actually.”
– Leonardo DiCaprio on J. Edgar: “To me, it’s really a story of how absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Director Clint Eastwood says the films leaves it up to the audience to decide if Hoover’s relationship with “inseparable pal” Tolson was romantic, adding that Hoover, a very private person, “knew what he could do to everybody else by finding out what their life was like.”
– Kirsten Dunst on making Lars von Trier’s Melancholia: “I’ve never felt so free on a set.”
– Cameron Crowe on the animals in We Bought a Zoo: “It’s great, the scuttlebutt that animal trainers will yell you. They’ll be like, ‘Are you working with primates? Get ready. They’ll do nothing you tell them to.’ Monkeys are like Mickey Rourke.”
– A Dangerous Method director David Cronenberg confirms that, while it “depends on what’s normal for you,” the film will have “a little S&M going on.”
