David Lynch Set to Drop Solo Album Featuring Karen O This Fall

David Lynch, recording artist? You heard that right. The visionary auteur, who hasn’t directed a feature film since 2006’s “Inland Empire,” will make his solo debut as a musical artist this fall with the album “Crazy Clown Time.” Produced and written by Lynch, the album features 14 original songs boasting his vocals and guitar work. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, guest vocals on the track “Pinky’s Dream.”

For those following Lynch’s career closely, this new venture shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. His passion for music has always figured prominently into his filmmaking, starting with his feature debut “Eraserhead” (1977), which included “In Heaven,” a song he co-wrote. He’s since gone on to pen tracks for the majority of his screen work, including “Blue Velvet,” “Wild at Heart,” “Mulholland Drive,” and the TV series “Twin Peaks.” Earlier this summer, Lynch announced news that he plans to open his first music nightclub, Club Silencio, in Paris this September.

Lynch recorded “Crazy Clown Time” over several months at his own Asymmetrical Studio. “There were so many accidents; this album should be in the hospital,” he said of the process in a statement.

So what’s the thing sounds like, you’re probably wondering? Well, according to Lynch, the album’s genre is “modern blues.” Give a listen below to the single “Good Day Today” to get an idea. It’s a moody and dark electronic affair that bodes of haunting things to come.
