Check out these mugshots and character descriptions for David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Daniel Craig (Mikael Blomkvist), Rooney Mara (Lisbeth Salander), Christopher Plummer (Henrik Vanger), Robin Wright (Erica Berger), Stellan Skarsgard (Martin Vanger) and thirteen other key characters are profiled here (thank you, DailyBlam). Below are Blomkvist and Salander’s bios–“pale and anorexic-looking and all but mute, she radiates hostility.” Dragon Tattoo, complete with all its sexy-violent-controversial glory and a Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross score (listen to a snatch here), will land December 21.
Mara tells EW that she was supportive of the infamous nipple poster: “I understand why there was a lot of controversy. People have a hard time with strong females and with nudity. But I think had I been doing something incredibly violent on the poster, people wouldn’t have had a problem with it. That sort of says a lot about the world that we live in. It’s just a teaser poster. I think it did just that. It teased people.”
It’s hard to take a definitive stance on a) strong women, b) nudity and 3) violence–especially when all three are combined in a movie you are trying to promote–so we’ll interpret Mara’s statement as a deflection of issues that will certainly rise again once the film opens.
