Frenchie Davis To Make Feature Film Debut In Indie Comedy "Dumbbells" (Co-Starring Jaleel White)

Fans of American Idol, and The Voice will be familiar with Frenchie Davis – the semi-finalist on the 2nd season of Idol who was disqualified after topless photos of her, taken earlier in her career, turned up. Don’t cry for the 32-year old however, because, by all accounts, Ms Davis has done fairly well for herself since then – appearing in the Broadway musical Rent, cast in the role of Effie in a West Coast-touring production of Dreamgirls, starred in the role of Mahalia Jackson in the Hartford Stage production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical, and, most recently, was a Top 8 semi-finalist on the first season of The Voice.

And she continues to stay busy, getting ready to make her feature-film debut in a buddy comedy titled Dumbbells, in which she’ll star alongside Carl Reiner, Tom Arnold, Jaleel White, Jay Mohr and Andy Milonakis.

The film, slated to be released in 2012 and being directed by Chris Livingston, centers on “a former basketball star who blows out his knee and is relegated to working in a rundown Los Angeles gym.

What’s Frenchie’s role in this? Nobody’s saying right now, except one of the film’s producers said that “she and [Jaleel] White share a unique bond.” You figure it out…

The film is almost done shooting, with the plan being to debut it at Sundance 2012, and hopefully a theatrical release afterward.

More when I know more…
