The second installment of The Hunger Games franchise (the first of which is currently shooting with director Gary Ross, stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson and many others), Catching Fire, will be released by Lionsgate November 22, 2013.
Lionsgate’s Joe Drake states the obvious franchise potential of the series: “The magical thing about the Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal,” he says, adding that the “period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies”—and for Lionsgate to rake in the profits.
