Check out the cast of Gangster Squad. The film is set in the 1940s, where a special LAPD unit (including Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling) is tasked to fight against East Coast gangster Mickey Cohen’s (Sean Penn) corrupting power over Los Angeles. Will Beall adapted the screenplay from a 2008 seven part LA Times article written by Paul Lieberman (Beall is also writing Nicolas Winding Refn’s Logan’s Run and Lethal Weapon 5). Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing the film, housed at Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow; it’s slated to start shooting later this year.
If done right–and 30 Minutes or Less lessens one’s confidence in Fleischer– this could make for a great noir double feature with L.A. Confidential.
UPDATE: Nick Nolte is joining the “sausage party” cast.
Gangster Squad just added The Killing‘s added Mireille Enos to its cast of Brolin, Gosling, Penn, Anthony Mackie, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Holt McCallany, Robert Patrick and Frank Grillo. Brolin plays lead cop John O’Mara, and Enos will play his pregnant wife (she’s also playing Brad Pitt’s wife in World War Z), Gosling is playing bachelor cop Jerry Wooters, and Stone is also in talks–his love interest again, after their Crazy, Stupid chemistry?
