The Sixth Annual Rome International Film Festival will open with Luc Besson’s “The Lady,” playing out of competition.
The film stars Michelle Yeoh as Burmese human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. The film follows her life, activism against Burmese dictatorship and her marriage to writer Michael Aris (David Thewlis). Because of her representation of Suu Kyi, Yeoh was deported and banned from Burma.
The film will have its world premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
RIFF runs October 27 – November 4.
