Rose Byrne In, Greta Gerwig Out For Derek Cianfrance’s ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’

Rose Byrne In, Greta Gerwig Out For Derek Cianfrance's 'The Place Beyond The Pines'

Filming is already well underway but it looks like one actress wasn’t able to make it to “The Place Beyond the Pines.”

Vulture reports that indie darling Greta Gerwig — long linked, but never officially signed on — has been forced out of the film due to her hectic schedule, which includes promotion (that we presume is for “Arthur” which still has some international territories to open in), filming Woody Allen‘s “Bop Decameron” and then taking a jaunt over to Venice where she’ll be on hand to walk the red carpet for the closing film, Whit Stillman‘s “Damsels In Distress.” Well, no need to worry, as Rose Byrne has some space in her calendar and will step into the role vacated by Gerwig.

As you know, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Ali Mahershalalhasbaz, Gabe Fazio, Max Martini, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen star in the film that centers on Luke (Gosling), a motorcycle stunt rider who turns to robbing banks to support his son but winds up crossing paths with a police officer-turned-politician (Cooper), kicking off a simmering generational feud that will also include their sons (Cohen and DeHaan) who are mixed up in a clash of their own. Byrne will play Cooper’s wife.

Frankly, Byrne is a great replacement and an excellent actress and the film should be able to keep moving swimmingly with her on board. “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance is behind the camera and while no release dates have been set, we’d say it’s a pretty safe bet he’ll be buying a ticket for a return trip to Cannes in 2012.
