Summit To Shoot Step Up 4 with Model Ryan Guzman and So You Think You Can Dance's Kathryn McCormick

What’s the biggest dance movie franchise in Hollywood history? It’s Summit Entertainment’s Step Up movies, which Disney launched on August 11, 2006. The first two grossed $265 million worldwide, and the third went 3-D in August 2010 and delivered another $165 million for a total $430 million worldwide.

So it’s no surprise that Summit is taking on distribution of the franchise and continuing the 3-D tradition, this time with two rookie stars. Calvin Klein model Ryan Guzman (ad below), making his movie debut, and So You Think You Can Dance star Kathryn McCormick are set to start filming in Miami with first-time filmmaker, music video director Scott Speer (Ashley Tisdale, TV’s The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers), later this summer.

Based on writer Jenny Mayer’s first produced screenplay, the film is produced by Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman via their Offspring Entertainment banner as well as Summit’s Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig. Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets and Step-Up 3D) will executive produce with Offspring’s Matt Smith. Summit will release the film stateside and sell overseas rights.
