If you’re a fan of of love stories in the vein of “Before Sunrise,” chances are you’ll go for Andrew Haigh’s much-hyped festival darling “Weekend.” The trailer for this year’s SXSW Audience Award winner dropped and much like the film, it’s a charmer.
The drama follows 48 hours spent between Russell (newcomer Tom Cullen, who indieWIRE profiled last month) and Glen (Chris New), two lonely souls who connect on an intimate level after meeting at a nightlcub on a Friday.
In his review for indieWIRE, Eric Kohn wrote “…humming along on the commitment of its engaging leads, ‘Weekend’ builds into a powerful encapsulation of an identity crisis over the course of three passionate days.”
The preview retains the gentle, swoony and heartbreaking vibe of the film and recalls the recently released trailer for another heart-breaker, Drake Doremus’ “Like Crazy.”
Sundance Selects will release the film in New York on September 23, with a national rollout to follow.
