Watch: Plain Scary Trailer for Buzzed About Indie Horror "Grave Encounters"

Horror geeks, get your fix and behold the just-released trailer for the hyped indie spook pic “Grave Encounters.”

For the uninitiated some background info: the film’s initial teaser, posted on YouTube by the film’s first-time directors Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz (who go under the pseudonym of The Vicious Brothers) last December, went viral, garnering over 1.5 million hits in only three months. The project was since picked up by Tribeca Film. And just last month, The Vicious Brothers hit up Comic-Con to unveil the official trailer which just hit the web today.

After checking out the clip, it’s easy to see where the mass appeal lies. Anyone into the “Blair Witch” brand of horror (hand shot, ‘real’ footage featuring ‘non actors’) will no doubt be intrigued. That, and it just looks plain scary.

Here’s the basic plot per Tribeca Film:

Lance Preston and the crew of ghost-hunting reality television show Grave Encounters are shooting an episode inside the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena have been reported for years. On the quest to expose the truth and scare their viewers, the crew conducts background interviews with current psychologists, as well as provide disturbing archival footage of patients in the earlier half of the century. All in the name of good television, they voluntarily lock themselves inside the building for the night and begin a paranormal investigation, capturing everything on camera. But they quickly realize that the building is more than just haunted—it is alive—and it has no intention of ever letting them leave.

See whether it lives up to its advance buzz when it begins its theatrical roll-out on August 19th in Los Angeles and New York. It hits VOD nationwide on August 25.
