Watch: Victorian-Era Ladies Squirm with Delight in “Hysteria” Trailer

Watch: Victorian-Era Ladies Squirm with Delight in "Hysteria" Trailer

Fresh off of making the Toronto International Film Festival’s official lineup earlier this morning, the Maggie Gyllenhall and Hugh Dancy fronted period comedy “Hysteria” has dropped its first trailer.

The preview makes no qualms about laying out its raucous plot: it’s about the invention of the vibrator in Victorian-era England. Dancy and Jonathan Pryce play doctors in London treating cases of hysteria in women. To treat their patients’ conditions, Dancy’s character enlists the help of his best friend (played by Rupert Everett) to come up with an electrical device to calm their nerves. Gyllenhaal plays daughter to Pryce.

Judging by the clip, “Hysteria” looks like a rollicking good time with a great cast. And in case you’re wondering, you do see a woman get off over the course of this 2-minute preview.
