'All My Children' & 'Hunger Games' Star Leven Rambin Joins Curtis Hanson’s ‘Mavericks’

It looks like things are definitely on this rise for the young actress Leven Rambin. Previously best known for her role as Ava Benton on “All My Children,” Rambin received a profile boost earlier this year when she was cast as Glimmer in “The Hunger Games,” and it looks like her career continues to snowball into greater things.

Rambin will now join Gerard Butler and Jonny Weston in Curtis Hanson‘s “Mavericks,” a biopic of late surfer Jay Moriarty, as reported by Variety. The Santa Cruz native found his calling in the world of surfing at a young age and soon flourished with the guidance of local elder Rick “Frosty” Hesson, the role Butler is being lined up to play. The former lifeguard trained Moriarty (Weston) with a vigorous mental and physical program in preparation to surf Mavericks, a spot on the California coast where waves five stories tall would come in during the winter swells. Moriarty tragically passed away the day before his 23rd birthday in a free-diving accident in the Maldives. Rambin will play Moriarty’s best friend and potential love interest in the film.

No word yet on when this will lens, but it likely will be soon as casting continues to ramp up. This will be Hanson’s first theatrical feature since he stumbled with “Lucky You” almost five years ago. But if you’re wondering if he’s still got it, his HBO film “Too Big To Fail” is a crackerjack piece of work that may not be the most innovative example of filmmaking, but at least shows if you give the man a good story, he can run with it with panache to spare.
