Linkin Park mastermind Mike Shinoda will create an all-new soundtrack for the Indonesian martial arts film “The Raid.” The film’s slated for release in 2012.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions bought the film for the US at the market during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. “The Raid,” directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais (“Merantau”) and Joe Taslim (“Rasa”), made its world premiere last night at the Toronto International Film Festival as the opening-night screening of the Midnight Madness section. The premiere screened with the current soundtrack, which was written by Aria Prayogi and Fajar Yuskemal.
Shinoda serves as rapper, principal songwriter, keyboardist, vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Linkin Park in addition to providing artwork, production, and mixing for the group. This will be his first film soundtrack.
While the Shinoda soundtrack won’t be exclusive to the film’s US release, it’s unclear which additional territories will utilize the new music. Celluloid Nightmares represented worldwide sales on the film.
SPWA’s enthusiasm for “The Raid” has been palpable. The Cannes acquisitions announcement included one of the more memorable quotes to come from a press release, courtesy of then-SPWA exec Scott Shooman: “In a Cannes market filled with serious award-caliber dramas, it was so refreshing to see someone get throat punched! We knew right away that we needed to get involved.”

Deep in the heart of Jakarta’s slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building’s lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission. Director Gareth Evans (Merantau) and rising martial arts star Iko Uwais reunite in this adrenaline-fueled action film.
