Trailer Watch For "The Raid" (A Man's Man Movie If Ever There Was One)

Yeah, now we’re talking! Below is the red band trailer for the Indonesian film The Raid , directed by Welsh filmmaker Gareth Huw Evans, which has gotten nothing but ecstatic reviews since it was screened at the Toronto Film Festival this month. Not surprisingly, it’s been picked up by up for release in worldwide territories – USA (Sony Pictures), Canada (Alliance), the UK (Momentum), Australia (Madman), France (SND), Germany (Koch), Japan (Kadokawa), China (HGC) and Turkey (Calinos).

A mixture of Assault on Precinct 13 (both the John Carpenter original and the not-so-bad remake), Die Hard and like every John Woo film ever made, it deals with a SWAT team sent to clean out a rundown apartment block in Jakarta, ruled by a ruthless drug lord who uses the tenement to shelter junkies, his enforcers, killers and drugs manufacturers, and who watches over the building via closed circuit television.

The rest is pure glorious mayhem.

Going back to what I said about wanting black directors to do riskier stuff, this is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. I would love to see a black director (male or female) doing something this hard edged and hard core. Hell I need to make a film like this myself. I’m going start writing a script.
