Candese Reid Wins Best British Newcomer Award For Her “Junkhearts” Role

Candese Reid Wins Best British Newcomer Award For Her "Junkhearts" Role

Just last week, I posted the trailer for the British gritty, social drama Junkhearts. The film stars Eddie Marsan, newcomer Candese Reid, Tom Sturridge, Romola Garai, Shaun Dooley and John Boyega.

Although Marsan, Sturridge and Boyega seem to be the known stars of the film, Reid apparently made her mark because she was just named “Best British Newcomer” at this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

Chair of the Best British Newcomer jury, Andy Harries said… “Candese is a fresh, brilliant and exciting new talent. Every moment she was on screen was compelling.”

The festival awards are presented in partnership with Swarovski and honor new emerging film talent, recognizing the achievements of a new writer, producer, director, actor or actress. In addition to the award, she received a bursary of £5,000 courtesy of Swarovski.

Candese starting acting at the age of nine – she joined Nottingham’s prestigious Television Workshop – and her role in Junkhearts was her first professional acting role.

We’ll definitely be keeping our eye on Candese. Check out the trailer and interview below.
