‘Sunshine’ Star Troy Garity Will Try To Kill Ryan Gosling & Josh Brolin In ‘Gangster Squad’

'Sunshine' Star Troy Garity Will Try To Kill Ryan Gosling & Josh Brolin In 'Gangster Squad'

For a time, a decade or so ago, it seemed that Troy Garity was heading to big things. The son of Jane Fonda, and grandson of Henry Fonda, the actor broke through with a scene-stealing turn in Barry Levinson‘s “Bandits,” before going on to feature as the token white guy in the “Barbershop” movies, and deliver a neat little performance as one of the excellent cast of Danny Boyle‘s “Sunshine.” But he never quite made it to the next level, having spent much of the last few years in TV and little-known indies.

But things are looking up. He’s a series regular on the upcoming Gus Van Sant-helmed Starz series “Boss,” as a journalist investigating Kelsey Grammer‘s corrupt mayor, and he’s just landed a role in one of our most anticipated pictures of 2012, with Variety reporting that Garity has joined the cast of Warner Bros‘ period thriller “Gangster Squad.”

Garity will play a one-eyed hitman, in the employ of feared crimelord Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn), who’s tasked with getting rid of Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin, the cops on his boss’ tail. Sounds like a nice little character, one that will undoubtedly be a memorable small role for Garity to sink his teeth into.

The cast also includes Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Michael Pena, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Giovanni Ribisi, Mereille Enos, Josh Pence, Holt McCallany and Sullivan Stapleton. “Zombieland” helmer Ruben Fleischer is directing, with the film set for release exactly a year from today, on October 19th, 2012.
