Dawn Hudson, Los Angeles former head of Film Independent, has, in her first major initiative as the Chief Executive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just changed the face of Los Angeles. The landmark May Company, the art deco entry way to the famed Miracle Mile at Wilshire and Fairfax, will become the long-discussed Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. AMPAS and LACMA’s joint effort will finally bring Los Angeles, the Movie Capitol of the World, “a much-needed destination for cultural tourists and Los Angelenos to learn more about cinema, and the setting could not be more ideal, nestled next to the largest encyclopedic art museum in the western United States,” said co-chairman of LACMA Board of Trustees Terry Semel (former chairman of Warner Brothers and CEO of Yahoo). — Los Angeles Times
Hats off to Dawn and the Academy!
