In some very surprising news, FilmNation has announced not one but two new Terrence Malick projects, with casts that include the likes of Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara.
Film Nation is handling international sales and distribution on both films, titled “Lawless” and “Knight of Cups,” respectively.
Bale and Blanchett will star in both films, while Gosling and Mara are in “Lawless.” Both films are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012.
The news is surprising because it represents what seems like a remarkable change of tune for the generally slow-paced Malick, who has directed only 5 films since his 1973 debut “Badlands,” including this year’s “The Tree of Life.” But he’s already completed filming on “The Tree of Life”‘s untitled follow-up – which stars Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams – and now two more films are on tap.
International sales will begin during the American Film Market. CAA will represent domestic rights to both films.
