TCM Showcases Spielberg and Williams, New Classic Film Collections Honor Hepburn, Day, Robinson

What most clearly evokes a preying shark–an image of a fin slicing water or two low-notes played in steady succession? “Jaws”‘ indelible combo of sound and image comes from the long creative collaboration between director Steven Spielberg and composer John Williams, the focus of TCM and AFI’s “Master Class” program debut.

Spielberg and Williams will discuss their 40-year relationship on 25 films, present clips, and answer questions in a follow-up Q&A with an audience of AFI Fellows. “The Art of Collaboration” will premiere Tuesday, November 15 at 5:00 PM PT/ 8:00 ET, then again at 9:00 PM PT/12:00 midnight ET.In 1974, Spielberg asked the composer to write the score for his debut theatrical feature,”The Sugarland Express.” Since then the pair have teamed up on “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of a Third Kind,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.,””Jurassic Park,” “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan” and more.  In 2011 they collaborated on both “the Adventures of Tin-Tin,” and “War Horse,” while their 26th effort, “Lincoln,” is shooting now and will hit theaters in 2012.

TCM also announced the launch of three new classic film collections, available for purchase in March of 2012. These collections are anthologies of three film greats: Doris Day, Katherine Hepburn, and Edward G. Robinson. TCM Greatest Classic Films Legends: Katharine Hepburn includes “The Philadelphia Story,” “Little Women,” “Stage Door,” “Morning Glory.” TCM Greatest Classic Films Legends: Doris Day will contain “Calamity Jane,” “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies,” “Love Me or Leave Me,” “Romance on the High Seas” and TCM Greatest Classic Films Gangsters: Edward G.
